In the second game of the day for the New England Hockey Club (NEHC) at the Toronto Aeros Holiday Classic 2019, NEHC faced off against the PWHL’s Toronto Leaside Junior Wildcats.
SO G Mackenzie Muir got the start in net and continued her strong play for the team. She made 25 saves on 28 shots, which consisted of a handful breakaway and odd-man rush opportunities. The Wildcats took advantage of an early opportunity in the first period, after NEHC was unable to clear the puck out of the defensive zone. Shortly after the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead, NEHC was able to kill off a tripping penalty taken by JR D Logan Yamaguchi. However, the Wildcats were able to score a second goal with less than five minutes left and the first period ended with NEHC trailing 2-0.
In the second period, NEHC was unable to take advantage of a powerplay opportunity and the Wildcats scored again in the last few minutes of the period. The second period ended with NEHC trailing 3-0.
SR G Angela Hawthorne took over in net for the third period and made 16 saves on 17 shots. Again, NEHC was unable to capitalize on a powerplay opportunity and the Wildcats scored late in the period. The game ended 4-0 for the Wildcats.
NEHC will play their third game of the tournament against the hosting Toronto Aeros tomorrow at 1:00 pm EST.
