New England Hockey Club (NEHC) played their first game of the Toronto Aeros Holiday Classic against the Syracuse Nationals, on the campus of York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
SR G Angela Hawthorne started in net and made 19 saves on 21 shots, with one goal scored on a breakaway and the other on a five-on-three powerplay advantage for the Nationals. SO G Mckenzie Muir played great in the second half, as she stopped all 20 shots she faced. While shorthanded late in the second period, SR F Nicole Schneiders blocked a shot and scored five-hole on the subsequent breakaway. The period ended with NEHC trailing 2-1. In the third period, NEHC tightened up defensively, implemented a strong forecheck, and had a number of opportunities to tie the game, but were unable to find the back of the net. The game ended 2-1 in favor of the Syracuse Nationals.
